The Great Bear Migration...

What has taken place here this past weekend has a portion of Emma Lazarus poem The New Colossus, going through my head. The poem is engraved on a tablet that is in the base of the Statue of Libearty. That portion reads:

"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Last week my brother Cocoa and that spy want-a-be, Tigg went on a road trip with Dad.
Dad was preparing for another camp out. He had the church van and trailer and was taking a road trip to pick-up some stuff for the weekends camp out.

They had jumped into the van to ride along and were about get on the road, when dad got a phone call that changed his plans. Instead of heading southwest, they headed north.

They spent the day at some friends house up in Woodstock. Dad and Mr. G. worked on some woodworking projects that he needed to get done for the camping trip. I guess I should let them tell the story, so here are Cocoa and Tigg.

Cocoa:
Thanks Buttons. We enjoyed the hour ride in the van. We played a game on the way. We took turns pointing out the odd shapes of goo on the van's carpet and tried to guess what kind of candy or food it had once been. Dad gave us bonus points if we could guess how long it had been there. Between that game and watching the scenery out the window the trip went quickly.

Tigg:
When we got there, I think dad forgot about us being along at first. He went off and started working with Mr. G. Then later, after mom called and reminded him not to leave us in the vehicle because it was hot. So then he took us in the house.

Cocoa:
We were sitting in their living room enjoying the coolness of the house.  Pretty soon bears started appearing,

at first just a couple, then some more.

Buttons:
Whoa, Tigg, what's going on there?

Tigg:
I guess some girls just can't resist a bear in uniform. Anyway, we stayed a little longer. The bears just kept on coming.

Cocoa:
Hey, she's not a bear! That's Abbey, she is a Japanese Chin. She doesn't bark, at all. She might growl a little, but no bark. She's sweet, but no watch dog. I think all the bears moving about disturbed her nap.

Still more bears came, till we were having a party.

Tigg:
Finally, it was time to go home. But we didn't arrive home empty pawed, heehee, Mrs. G. sent a couple of care packages. Weren't Buttons and Mom surprised?

Cocoa:
Yep, I'm not sure which surprised mom more.  That I came home acting like a pirate with a sword or the what was in the two big bags?

In preparation for Talk Like A Pirate Day, I had asked Mrs. G's daughter, K. if she could help me accessorize me inner pirate. Arrrgh!

Buttons:
That's a tough call, you brandishing a the pumpkin knife sword,  or the contents of those two big bags.

Here are the contents of bag one. Oh my bearness,

Cocoa, Tigg and me with the huddled masses.
There were 38 bears and one NOT A BEAR counting the two baby bears in their momma's arms that migrated from Woodstock to our house. I think in the whole lot there are only two or three duplicates to bears already in our hug.

As New Bear Orientation Instructor for this Hug, I am going to be busy, this is going to take some time. I can tell already that some of them have fascinating stories. Most of them were rescued by Mrs. G. from garage sales and resale shops. I guess she didn't notice, mom has taken down those signs she used to have. The signs said "Orphans Welcome" Teddy Bear Collector. I will try to share some of their stories in the future. Thanks Mrs. G. and thanks guys for telling this adventure.

Hey Bob, I noticed some of them have spy bear ears like you.

Well Grr-bye for now,

Buttons

Buttons,
Wow, I thought I had a hard time with Taddy, but you have a lot of new bears to show around. You are a good bear hug leader. Is your father, John Davis, the big bear? Or rather is he your grand father? I am going to post my adventures with Taddy on Monday. I was much upset that I missed Monday, but Mommy was plagued with diffculties of the computer.

Hi Charlie,
The biggest bear in our hug is Daniel James Bear, he is Tricia Jeans father. Our next biggest bears are John Thomas Bear and Alissa Jo Bear.

Yes, I will be beary beary busy. I haven't decided how best to handle this influx of bears. Mom says we will just take it slow.

I missed your posting on Monday.

Good Heavens!
That is an invasion, and I thought I had my paws full when just four newcomers arrived suddenly.
Just take your time and all will settle in well.

And now, Merry wants to have a word...
"Hallo Buttons!
It's funny that all you new bears came from the town of Woodstock, because that was where I was first sent when shipped out to America by Merrythought Bears of Stonebridge England!
I was found there & adopted by Mummys Airedale friends Maggie & Mitch's Mum. Then, when Sir Woodstock started blogging I got homesick and because of the name connection, they kindly decided to send me to join him and I'm very happy here.
Hugs to you & all your newbies are fine.
Merry"

Regards
Woodstock

Woodstock,
You are right, that is an invasion!

Tell Merry that it is ironic she shipped from Woodstock, and is now living with Sir Woodstock. Heehee, pretty funny! Was that Woodstock, Illinois? So essentially made a round trip, wow, lucky you. If that were my story, and I returned to my stuffplace, I'd be in Korea.

Hugs to you both, a still getting organized,

Buttons

Wow-- that is quite a new group! It must be hard to remember everyone's names! But I guess since they've been together for a while, they know each other's, so it'll all work out!
