Hug history or her story...

I promised I'd have Tricia Jean, one of the founding mem-bears of our hug to tell the story of our hug. I took that opportunity today. So here she is, in her own words, Tricia Jean Bear.

Tricia Jean:
Hi everyone. Thank-you for this opportunity Buttons, to share how this all got started, at least from where I came into the picture. I think my uncle John Thomas Bear really started it all, but that's his story to tell.

Just about 31 years ago in San Diego, California. I was sitting in a bear adoption/relocation center along with my mom and dad. We were homeless. A young handsome sailor and his fiance were looking at us as they passed through the adoption center (gift shop).

I think it was later the same day, its been so long ago, the sailor came back into the adoption center. This time he was alone.

Our day after Father's Day ...

The temperatures around here are hot, hot and hotter. The air is so thick with humidity its hard to breath. Now that its officially summer its time to wear my shorts. Yippee! I get to see my knees peek out everyday, haven't seen them for a long time.
Well Hell-o knees!
Checking on the lettuce - we had some in the salad on Monday night. Yum!

We celebrated Father's Day on Monday with a family dinner. Brother T was supposed to bring Scruffy along, I guess Scruffy over-slept and wasn't ready to leave on time. Brother T had emailed mom after he got to work to say Scruffy didn't make it. Oh well, maybe for the 4th of July.

So when Brother T walked in with two bears we

Thunderstorms, tornado warning sirens and Father's Day...

As you may have read in my things about me, I don't like thunderstorms. We've been having a lot of them lately. On Friday morning we had two, with severe weather warnings. Mom was supposed to go shopping with her friend who lives about 10 miles away. The first storm hit before 9 in the morning. A tornado warning was issued for the towns where my Aunt Cheryl and my cousins families live. Mom called them to make sure they'd heard.

The winds picked up a little by our house. I saw a couple of huge lightening bolts. The vertical kind and very close. Then our tornado warning siren sounded

A Stow-away Visitor...

Last night my Aunt and Uncle came over to watch a movie. They called on their way down and said they had a stow-away visitor coming along. Hmmm, mysterious...I asked if the visitor had four paws?

They just moved up from Peoria and they have three cats. I know they are looking for new homes for two of them, as they are now living in a condo. I was afraid one was coming here.

My house is a cat-free zone, well except for when one wanders through the backyard or visits my blog. I think mom and some of the other bears here might be allergic or something.

I wondered if not a cat, then who?

Ladies Tea and a Spy Bear want-a-be...

Well the day of the big Ladies Tea has arrived. Clara and Winnie were so busy getting everything ready for this afternoon. I didn't get a chance to tell Clara, I'd decided to be of service to the girls as a waiter. So I just showed up about 1:30p.m. all dressed up and ready to work. Clara had just finished decorating the little cakes and setting them on the tray. There were 12 Ladies on the guest list. Including one of the founding bears of our hug Tricia Jean. I know it's not polite to talk about a ladies age, but she has been here for 30 years! I'm really glad Clara invited her to come speak to the ladies. I hoped she'd tell one of her stories from back at the beginning of our hug.

Earlier this morning I'd heard the guys whispering. I think they're up to something, I noticed that Tigg's camouflage outfit was missing from the closet when I was getting dressed. Grr, I hope they don't spoil the day for the girls.

Girls and tea parties...

What is it about girls and fancy tea parties? When my Aunt Cheryl was here recently she brought her two girl bears for a visit. She must think mom does bearby-sitting, because she left them here while she moves. So the girl bears around here are busy planning a big tea party for Saturday.

They even made and printed invitations. I managed to get hold of one. Look here it is, see what it says, there along the side?No Boys! Can you believe it?!!! No boys---hey

Salad that grows in a table...

Hmm...I never heard of growing salad in a table before. I just kept picturing a bowl of salad with legs as my grandma was telling mom what she'd seen on Martha Stewart one day. My mom thought it sounded like a great idea, she went and checked it out here. She thought it would just fit on the patio under the kitchen window. She showed dad and asked him to build her one. Dad wanted to see more detail in the plans, so he went to growit.umd.edu they have step by step instructions there.

Dad had finally gotten started building the table just before the Memorial Day weekend. He was able to finish assembling it on Memorial Day. Mom decided to do some spring cleaning and flower planting on the patio. She was sweeping up the leaves and elm seeds, while dad finished putting the table together. Me and Cocoa checked it out while dad went looking for some wheels. Cocoa assured me that no bunnies would be getting our salad. Bunny rabbits can jump,
